    PM SHRI KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA CHANDERI

Two Innovative Initiatives under Best Practices

PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Chanderi has successfully implemented two innovative initiatives under the “Best Practices” framework with the objective of promoting the holistic development of students, improving reading skills, and fostering environmental conservation. The two initiatives are:

    1. “More We Read, More We Learn”

With the objective of developing a reading habit among students and enhancing their reading skills, pronunciation, vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence, the school has initiated the programme “More We Read, More We Learn.”

Under this initiative, 5 minutes are saved from each period and utilized as a dedicated “Reading Time.” During this time, students read age-appropriate and level-specific learning materials such as textbooks, storybooks, newspapers, children’s literature, supplementary reading materials, and other useful resources.

To ensure the effectiveness of the initiative, an Observation Team has been constituted in the school. The team regularly observes the reading activity in each class and monitors students’ participation, reading fluency, pronunciation, word recognition, and comprehension. Daily observation and assessment are carried out to identify areas requiring improvement.

Through this consistent practice, students are gradually developing a regular reading habit. The initiative is also contributing positively to their language proficiency, confidence, concentration, communication skills, and overall learning ability.

    Key Objectives and Achievements

    • Developing a regular reading habit among students.
    • Improving reading fluency and pronunciation.
    • Enriching vocabulary and language skills.
    • Enhancing reading comprehension.
    • Developing students’ confidence and communication skills.
    • Encouraging students to read beyond their prescribed textbooks.
    • Ensuring continuous improvement through daily monitoring and assessment by the Observation Team.

    2. “Eco-Friendly School”

The school is implementing the “Eco-Friendly School” initiative with the objective of promoting environmental conservation, sustainable practices, and responsible waste management.

A major focus of this initiative is the proper and productive management of biodegradable waste generated within the school premises.

The biodegradable waste is utilized for preparing Organic Compost through an appropriate composting process. The compost produced is subsequently used for plants, saplings, plantation areas, and herbal plants within the school campus.

This practice promotes the productive reuse of organic waste and contributes towards reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers. The use of organic compost supports healthy plant growth and helps in developing a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable school campus.

The initiative also provides students with practical exposure to Waste Management, Composting, Recycling, Plantation, and Environmental Conservation. By actively participating in environmental activities, students are encouraged to understand and adopt the principles of “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” in their daily lives.

    Key Objectives and Achievements

    • Scientific and productive management of biodegradable waste.
    • Preparation of organic compost within the school campus.
    • Utilization of compost for plants, saplings, and the Herbal Garden.
    • Promotion of healthy plant growth and productivity.
    • Development of a clean, green, and eco-friendly school environment.
    • Creating awareness among students about environmental conservation.
    • Providing students with practical knowledge of composting and sustainable waste management.
    • Making Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Practices an integral part of regular school activities.

    Conclusion

The two initiatives of PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Chanderi — “More We Read, More We Learn” and “Eco-Friendly School” — reflect the school’s commitment to making education more meaningful, experiential, and connected with real-life needs.

While the first initiative strengthens the reading culture and language competencies of students, the second promotes environmental awareness, sustainable practices, and social responsibility.

Through regular monitoring, active student participation, and continuous assessment, these Best Practices are helping the school move towards its vision of holistic education, continuous improvement, and a clean, green, and sustainable learning environment.
